When is the best time to prune a tree?
A season-by-season guide to tree work in Cornwall, from winter reductions to summer pruning.

There is no single right time for every tree, but there is a right time for yours.
Winter (November to February)
The best time for most broadleaf trees. The leaves are off, so we can see the shape of the crown, and the tree is dormant. It is also outside the bird nesting season.
Spring (March to May)
Sap is rising and birds are nesting. We keep spring work light, and always check for nests first.
Summer (June to August)
The right time for cherries, plums and walnuts, which can bleed or pick up disease if cut in winter. Also a good time to spot problems, because a tree in leaf shows its health.
Autumn (September to October)
A good time for crown reductions and lifting before the winter gales, once nesting has finished.
Storm damage does not wait for the right season. If a tree is split or hanging, call us straight away.
